New Initiative: WAVES

Water. Access. Vitality. Education. Stewardship.

The health of Lake Champlain is an increasingly important issue for our community. Recreation-based environmental education is one of the many opportunities available to bridge people's understanding of their personal impacts to the Lake's health.
Jobs

This spring we are launching a new learning initiative for children and adults to enhance their connection to Lake Champlain. Through hands-on learning and on-the-water activity, we will engage and empower people to become future stewards of Lake Champlain, improving its water quality by changing perceptions and behavior.

The goals of the WAVES initiative are:
  • To implement a five-week environmental education program that includes lessons on water quality, weather, aquatic flora and fauna, watersheds, and human impact on natural ecosystems.
  • Educate adults and youth about scientific ideas and basic ecological components of Lake Champlain, lessons that are then reinforced for them by their recreational use of the lake.
  • Include an environmental education component to each and every one of our programs in 2009.
To find out more about this exciting initiative or to get involved please contact Jen Guimaraes, Education and Outreach Director, at 864.2499

Spring Education Programs

Spring Education Programs

Expand your horizons.

This year we are opening the Sailing Center five weeks early!

We are starting an entirely new season in order to be able to offer even more programs to the greater Burlington community.

Starting May 4th the Center will be open to school groups and local non-profits for school field trips during the day and exciting after-school programs in the afternoons. These programs will all focus on our new W.A.V.E.S. initiative, creating future stewards of Lake Champlain. The programs include hands-on ecology lessons paired with an extended on-water adventure in our sailboats, canoes, or kayaks!

If your school or nonprofit organization is interested in creating a custom program with the Sailing Center this spring, please contact, Jen Guimaraes, Education and Outreach Director at 864.2499

GET ON BOARD: New Sponsorship Program

A Unique Opportunity.

It's not often that you come across a great marketing opportunity that also provides a valuable service to your community. The Community Sailing Center presents GET ON BOARD, our new boat sponsorship program. By making a contribution of a certain level, we will place your business's name and logo prominently on one of our sails.

You will not only make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities, your logo will also be on display at the waterfront for two years, ten hours a day, seven days a week from May through October.

We also recognize the valuable contributions of sponsors in our publications, promotional materials, t-shirts and on our website. And, because our programs typically attract significant media attention, we often have the opportunity to include our sponsors in press releases and news stories.

To learn more about how you can support the Community Sailing Center, contact Kate Neubauer, Executive Director, at 864.2499.
