Mayor Bob Kiss put forth a proposal for the redevelopment of the Moran Plant which includes a world-class indoor ice and rock climbing facility, restaurant and cafĂ©, children’s museum and expanded community sailing center. Year-round, public access to the building (including observation deck) and all activities within the building are targeted at public enjoyment and enrichment.

Moran Center will create a variety of recreation and education opportunities and amenities to the people of Burlington in a public facility that ensures access and enjoyment of Lake Champlain. Also proposed are upgrades to the bike path, increased green space and park amenities, children’s splash park, seasonal refrigerated skating rink and a rebuilt skate park.

Burlington City Councilors placed the proposal for the Moran Waterfront Park Revitalization, which includes 3,380 square feet of office and classroom space and 8,000 square feet of outside storage space for the Community Sailing Center, on the March 4, 2008 ballot. The vote passed in all 7 wards and with 65% approval.
