Burlington, VT – The Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center located on Burlington’s waterfront at the Moran building launched a new 335 foot –long floating wave attenuator this past week. The new infrastructure improvement is made possible by three Boating Infrastructure Grants from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, administered by the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife totaling $193,000. The grants also have helped the Center fund repairs and reinforcements to its wooden docks that provide access to the 200 ft main dock.

Over the past decade, the Community Sailing Center has provided public access opportunities in front of the Moran Generating Station by investing in improvements to the shoreline. The wave attenuator is moored approximately 300 feet from shore to offer protection to boats and docks. All of the Community Sailing Center’s docks are public facilities and used for the center’s programs and services to the public.

“This is a terrific opportunity to increase boating access to Lake Champlain,” said Kate Neubauer “The grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has helped make this project a reality, and I am delighted that our proposal was one of the recipients for funding,” she added.

Beginning in May, the Main Dock will provide daytime mooring space for as many as ten boats in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Burlington. Any boater wishing to dock at the Center will call or radio the City’s Harbormaster to reserve a space there. Coincident with the quadricential celebration, these facilities will become a vital part of Burlington’s Waterfront Park, which offers many opportunities for the public to experience Lake Champlain.

The Community Sailing Center is an award winning, 501(c)(3) organization that encourages and celebrates the responsible use and long term stewardship of Lake Champlain by fostering educational and recreational opportunities for all members of our community.
