Community Sailing Center to Host Interscholastic High School Sailing Regatta

Burlington, VT – The Community Sailing Center will host an Interscholastic High School Sailing Regatta this Saturday, May 16th at 3pm. Teams from the Northern Vermont High School Sailing Program and Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, NH) will be participating in the regatta. The event will take place on Burlington’s waterfront at the Community Sailing Center.

“High school sailing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, we are excited to bring the sport to high school students in Chittenden County,” said Community Sailing Center Executive Director Kate Neubauer “We’ve seen a great amount of enthusiasm from area high school students and we look forward to holding many additional high school regattas this fall”

The Community Sailing Center’s Northern Vermont High School Sailing Team is the only interscholastic competitive sailing program in Vermont and is open to all full time high school students in Chittenden County. Currently students from Champlain Valley Union High School, Colchester High School, South Burlington High School, Burlington High School, Mount Mansfield Union High School, Essex High School and Lake Champlain Waldorf School participate on this team.

Club 420 sailing dinghies are raced in the regatta. The pre-race meeting is scheduled for 3:00pm and races will begin at 3:30pm. The race committee will run as many races as time and weather conditions permit.

The Community Sailing Center is a community based 501(c) (3) organization that encourages and celebrates the responsible use and long-term stewardship of Lake Champlain by fostering educational and recreational opportunities for all members of our community.
