Floating Classroom Program

Creating Future Stewards of Lake Champlain

Floating Classrooms brings Vermont youth to the lakefront to actively  participate in learning science using a place-based and inquiry-based pedagogy to build on students’ foundation of classroom learning through hands-on experimentation. The Floating Classroom programs utilizes both on-land and on-water instruction.  Teachers can chose from a variety of topics that will be taught on shore and enhanced while sailing on Lake Champlain aboard our 23-foot keelboats.

Physics and the Sport of Sailing
The Force of Nature: Weather and Sailing on the Lake
The Lake and Me: Human Impacts on Lake Champlain

All programs are aligned to Vermont’s Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities.

Program Options
Half-day program: This program is 3 hours long and includes 1 science topic paired with a sailing experience on Lake Champlain.

Full-day program: This program is 6 hours long and includes 2 science topics and a sailing experience on Lake Champlain.
