Come experience Lake Champlain!

The Community Sailing Center offers an exciting range of low cost programs tailored for school groups or nonprofit organizations that serve children aged between 6-18 years old.

Your group will can experience the thrills of sailing, paddling, or environmental education while being educated by certified instructors aboard our sailboats or canoes and kayaks. Your students will not only learn a new set of skills but will also be interacting with positive role models.

Ecology Education Field Trips for Schools

The Community Sailing Center’s education programs give teachers the opportunity to get their students out of the classroom to learn firsthand about the environment utilizing both on-land and on-water instruction. Teachers choose two topics to create a full day program, or choose one topic for a partial day program. Time for lunch on the Burlington waterfront can be built into the daily schedule.

Vermont’s Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities: All programs are aligned to Vermont’s Learning Standards. The education staff includes professionals and undergraduates from diverse backgrounds, selected for his or her specific experience and aptitude for working with young people in an educational capacity.

Afterschool Science and Sailing Program

This innovative environmental education program is a 5-week program designed to engage elementary and middle school students outside and on the lake after school! Not only is the Afterschool Science and Sailing Program an outdoor, on-the-water program, but also a learning experience for everyone involved! We will discover new and exciting ecosystems in and around Lake Champlain and explore what effect we as humans have on them. The lessons include hands-on learning and experiments on our waterfront property with an extended adventure on the lake in a sailboat, canoe, or kayak!

Additional Opportunities

Instructional Sailing
This three hour course introduces students to sailing and the lake. Our certified instructors will explain and demonstrate the theory of wind power on sails and give the students an opportunity to experience keelboat sailing for themselves.

Recreational Sailing
This three hour course allows students to relax and set sail around the lake. Limited sailing instruction will be given, emphasis will be on exploring the beauty of the lake and its environment.

Guided Paddle
Enjoy the sights of Burlington Bay while paddling around in a canoe, kayak, or on a Stand-Up Paddleboard. Guided tours will go out for a minimum of two hours.

Booking your Program

Spring Programs are available May 9th -June 12th
Summer Programs are available June 20th- August 31st
Fall Programs are available September 1st – October 21st
