WAVES Day to Day Operations

School Year

School Day Programs that incorporate ecology and education are offered in the spring and fall seasons. Our school day programs seek to fulfill the Vermont State Learning Standards and engage students in science-based hands on lessons that include lake recreation.

We also offer after school science ecology programs, also known as the Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Project.

Please see our Education Page for more information on both programs.

Summer

Each day campers and staff experience and implement the WAVES initiative. A regular day at camp is not just sailing and on-water recreation.

At lunchtime each day campers will:

  • Recycle and compost their lunch waste.
  • Track the amount of trash that their group generates each day in order to decrease their overall impact by the end of the week.
  • Attend a weekly speaker series on Wednesdays that focuses on ecology awareness and Lake Champlain.

Our staff members play a huge role in the day to day WAVES experience. Each week our staff instructs campers in the sport of sailing and incorporates eco-activities into every sailing camp.

Staff will also be working towards minimizing their personal impact on the environment throughout the summer. Through our staff incentive program we will be minimizing our carbon footprint by tracking the means by which all staff travel to and from work each day. This is new for 2010 and we look forward to the positive results. Our data will be recorded and updated on this web page throughout the summer.
