Ecology Education Programs for Schools
The Community Sailing Center’s education programs give teachers the opportunity to get their students out of the classroom to learn firsthand about the environment utilizing both on-land and on-water instruction. Teachers choose two topics to create a full day program, or choose one topic for a partial day program. Time for lunch on the Burlington waterfront can be built into the daily schedule.
Lessons topics include: Watersheds, Water Chemistry, Crazy Lake Plants, The Force of Nature, The Physics of Sailing, The Lake and Me: Human Impacts on Lake Champlain, Invasive Species, and Sustainable Energy and Our Future. We are completely flexible with our scheduling and are able to adapt our programs to fit your academic needs.
Afterschool Science and Sailing Program
This innovative environmental education program is a 5-week program designed to engage elementary and middle school students outside and on the lake after school! Not only is the Afterschool Science and Sailing Program an outdoor, on-the-water program, but also a learning experience for everyone involved! We will discover new and exciting ecosystems in and around Lake Champlain and explore what effect we as humans have on them. The lessons include hands-on learning and experiments on our waterfront property with an extended adventure on the lake in a sailboat, canoe, or kayak!
