Become a Volunteer!

The Community Sailing Center relies heavily on the skills, enthusiasm and time donated by the community. There is a lot of work to be done and volunteers do not have to have a great deal of sailing skills or experience.

You know you will be making a difference to us, and to the kids and adults that come and sail and paddle at the Center. It is also a great way to learn some skills by doing them.  For example:  We had a new sailor consolidate her own skills by helping the Waterfront Coordinator on a busy weekend by checking people’s boats for plugs, proper rigging etc. That was great for us and she definitely now knows how to rig a boat.

We are looking for people to help with the following tasks:

  • Waterfront Coordinating (on busy midsummer weekends and weeknights)
  • Boat and Facility Maintenance and Upkeep
  • Seasonal Preparation and Winterization
  • Building Projects/Facility Upgrading: usually basic carpentry
  • Dock Maintenance and Construction
  • Open House and Special Events
  • Camp Fairs and Festivals
  • Board of Directors Priority Teams: helping to guide the sailing center vision
  • Promotions, Marketing
  • Fundraising/Grant writing

If you are interested in volunteering at the Community Sailing Center, please read through our Volunteer Information sheet.

The Mates Program

Want to sail for free this summer? Our mates program offers unlimited rentals and sailing lessons for the season. In exchange we ask that you devote at least 40 hours of service to the sailing center. As a mate, you will work in a group and on independent projects ranging from waterfront coordination to grounds keeping. A two day sailing class is offered and a half day of training is required. This is a great way to meet new people, provide a valuable service to the center and get out on the lake this summer.  Enrollment will be limited so please sign up early.

For more information please email Melody McKnight.

Thank you, we can’t do this without your help!
