The Community Sailing Center offers sailing camps for kids of all sailing abilities. Our camps are for 6-7, 8-10 and 11-15 year olds.

All camps are one week camps Monday – Friday, unless otherwise specified.
Little Guppies
Half-Day Program
An intro to the sport of sailing and the lake. It’s never too early to start sailing! Students will learn to be comfortable around the water, rig and sail a keelboat, and take a launch ride.

Full-Day Program
Our first full-day camp for the youngest of sailors, this week will be filled with a fun introduction to sailing and neat outdoor ecology lessons at ECHO and the Sailing Center. Students will engage in hands-on activities each morning followed by an afternoon of sailing aboard our keelboats.

Level I
Campers will learn the basics of rigging, points of sail, sailing maneuvers, safety and recovery in a safe fun environment. Certified Instructors lead a variety of land and water based activities designed to promote comfort and independence in the boat. Sailors will receive US SAILING Little Red Sailing Certification Books at the completion of the course.

Level II
This camp is a perfect follow up to the Level I or for sailors who are already comfortable with the basics. There will be a review of nomenclature and basic rigging, safety and sailing maneuvers then it is onto on the water activities that consolidate skills, as well as teach new ones including longer sails around Burlington Bay.

Level III
The best way to advance your boat-handling skills is to learn from others. This camp will refine the sailor’s on-the-water skills, boat handling skills and introduce advanced equipment. Campers will also learn beginning racing skills including starts, tactical tips, and winning strategies. **This camp runs for two weeks, Monday- Friday**

Summer Race Program
The summer race program is a 4 week program designed for Level III graduates. It will build on the introduction to racing that students received in Level III and will include advanced coaching on dinghies and an introduction to keelboat racing. Multiactivity Camps
Climbing and Sailing Camp
In partnership with Petra Cliffs, this week long camp offers adventure and challenges on the water and off. Campers will experience Petra Cliff climbing center, rope course challenges, and fun activities related to climbing in addition to learning and improving on the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on Lake Champlain.

Art and Sailing Camp
This week-long camp introduces campers to the sport of sailing as well as creating beautiful art projects inspired by Lake Champlain. Campers will learn how to use watercolor paints and other fluid materials to create landscapes, and lakes capes. In the afternoon campers will continue their exploration on water by learning the basics of sailing.

Sea Kayaking and Sailing Camp
In partnership with Canoe Imports, this camp will introduce students to the joys of open water kayaking as well as sailing. We will be learning the skills necessary for paddling in wind and waves, along with the fundamentals of small craft safety.

Tennis and Sailing
In partnership with the Burlington Tennis Club, this week-long camp will have you learning the basics of two fun sports! Half your day will be spent learning tennis including skill development drills, and game based play. They will use a systematic progression of court size, balls and racquets to modify age appropriate play. The other half of your day will be spent learning the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on Lake Champlain!

Lake Adventure
This camp is designed for campers who love to play on the lake but would like to do more than just sail on it. We will explore Lake Champlain to the fullest from a variety of different boats: from canoe/kayak excursions out to Lone Rock Point, paddleboarding to North Beach, sailing adventures on our keelboats, you will be able to paddle, sail, swim, and have fun all week long.

Scuba and Sailing Camp
Experience the lake from above and below the water! This camp gives you the chance to enjoy the scenery on the surface of Lake Champlain and check out the neat, aquatic life below. In partnership with the Waterfront Diving Center you will learn basic snorkeling and scuba skills in the morning and then explore the excitement of sailing in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity to see if scuba diving and sailing are the sports for you. **Campers with asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy are unable to participate in this camp**

Cooking and Sailing Camp
In partnership with Healthy Living Natural Foods Market, this week long camp offers adventures indoors and outdoors. Campers will challenge themselves in the kitchen indulging in a variety of culinary pursuits at The Healthy Living Learning Center with their resident chef-instructor and in the afternoons they will learn the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on Lake Champlain at the Community Sailing Center.
*Camp includes lunch Monday-Thursday and there will be a BBQ at 4pm with parents on Friday.

Additional Opportunities
Saturday Free Sail
Saturday Free Sails had ended for the 2011 season. Please check in again next year.
Each Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., participants from the Youth Camps can use the our dinghy boats for free. A volunteer or sailing instructor will oversee the safe use of the boats. Join fellow students, meet new friends and build sailing skills by having fun and spending time in the boats! Families are welcome! Sign-up required and students must have completed at least one full week session prior to using the boats. Each student may take out the dinghy they used during their class. Usage of keel boats is not permitted.
