Sailing: Youth Camps
Summer is all about fun, new friends, and exciting adventures.
Community Sailing Center summer camps are designed to teach kids ages 6 through 17 the safety, skill, and joy involved in the life-long sport of sailing. Organized by age group and led by certified instructors, camp options include sailing-only and multi-activity camps that blend sailing and another sport or hobby. Week-long and two-week camps take place throughout the summer with several sessions to choose from.
Spend a half-day learning to sail, then explore another activity like yoga, swimming, art or paddleboarding.
Early drop off and late pickup from camp are available for busy families. Saturday Open Sail is open to experienced campers.

Our Gumby Guppies will enjoy a dynamic day of yoga and sailing. In partnership with GROW Prenatal and Family Yoga Center, this camp will begin with campers taking to the water and learning the basics of sailing on our 23-foot keelboats. Artful Guppies (Full Day)
In partnership with Burlington Paint & Sip Studio, campers will learn how to sail and create art inspired by the lakeshore and by the creatures that live in or near the water. With the guidance of Paint & Sip Studio teachers, campers will be painting in its different forms such as acrylics and watercolors. Campers will also explore other art mediums while making mixed-media projects that give them the freedom to explore their creativity. Upon arrival, campers will hop onboard keelboats and set sail with Community Sailing Center instructors. Community Partner: Burlington Paint & Sip Studio Age 6-7

This two-week long camp is a perfect follow up to the Level I camp or an ideal choice for young sailors who are already comfortable with the basics. Following a review of terminology and basic rigging, safety, and sailing maneuvers, sailors will advance to on-the-water activities that consolidate existing skills and teach new ones during longer sails around Burlington Bay. Ages 9-11

This program is designed for campers looking to advance their sailing skills and be introduced to racing skills and tactics. Ages 12-16. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Level I and II and competent with a variety of saiing skills.
Level III (Ages 12-16)
Building on the skills learned in Level I and II, this camp will refine on-the-water skills, boat-handling skills, and introduce advanced equipment. This program is designed for campers looking to advance their sailing skills and be introduced to racing skills and tactics. Ages 12-16

Intermediate & Advanced
With a solid foundation of previous sailing camp experiences, these camps allow sailors to embrace new challenges. From learning to sail larger keelboats, to advanced skills and sail theory, or learning to sail solo in a single-handed dinghy - these camps give young sailors the chance to rise to the next level. Advanced 420 (Ages 12-16)
The Advanced 420 Program is a week-long program designed for Level III graduates. This exciting opportunity will build on the advanced skills and sail theory students received in Level III and will include advanced coaching on 420s. Sailors will focus on mastering trapeze and symmetrical spinnakers on PS2000s.

Spend a week learning how to sail solo! This program is for sailors who have completed Levels I - III and who are ready to take on the challenge of learning how to sail a single-handed dinghy. Apply the skills you’ve learned in Level I & II to a new challenge – big boat sailing! Sailors will spend the week on board a larger keelboat learning the new crew roles and skipper responsibilities that go beyond those needed to sail small boats. This is an excellent camp to help dinghy sailors transition into the world of big boat sailing here on Lake Champlain.

Through yoga and sailing, our campers will connect to both the land and the lake environments as they practice balance, gain strength and become more flexible in the outdoors. Ages 8-10.

Girls Only Yoga and Sailing In partnership with GROW Prenatal and Family Yoga Center, the CSC is excited to provide a camp for girls that combines our love of yoga with our love of sailing. Through yoga and sailing, our campers will connect to both the land and the lake environments as they practice balance, gain strength and become more flexible in the outdoors. Mornings are spent on the lake exploring the fundamentals of sailing on our Hartley dinghies. After lunch, campers will be transported to the Burlington Tennis Club, where they will enhance their swimming skills with guidance from swim instructors and participate in a variety of engaging camp activities. After lunch, campers will be transported to the CSC, where they will learn the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on Lake Champlain! Ages 10-13.

In a new partnership with the Burlington Tennis Club, this camp teaches the basics of two fun sports. Mornings will be spent at BTC, where participants will develop essential tennis skills such as stroke production, body mechanics, and match play. Participants will also take part in a range of enjoyable activities, such as field games, arts & crafts, and more, creating a well-rounded and engaging experience. This camp will teach ye all there is to know to be a fearsome pirate! Learn swordplay and hand-to-hand combat; walk and talk like a pirate; don your scurviest pirate slops and sing a shanty or two on the shores of Lake Champlain. Mayhaps even a treasure hunt. Ages 8-10.

Prepare to board, landlubbers! This camp will teach ye all there is to know to be a fearsome pirate! Women in Science & Sailing
Take science to the lake with girls-only STEM and Sailing! Spend mornings learning the basics of sailing followed by afternoons with scientists and educators from Lake Champlain Sea Grant – UVM Extension in the lab or aboard a research vessel gathering data and learning about the many variables that contribute to the health of the lake and our watershed. Ages 11-15.
Women in Science & Sailing (Ages 11-15)
Girls Only STEM and Sailing Take science to the lake with this Community Sailing Center and Lake Champlain Sea Grant – UVM Extension partner camp for girls. Each morning will begin with the basics of sailing at the Sailing Center followed by afternoons with scientists and educators from Lake Champlain Sea Grant – UVM Extension in the lab or aboard a research vessel gathering data and learning about the many physical, biological, chemical, and cultural variables that contribute to the health of the lake and our watershed. Saturday Open Sail
Each Saturday of the summer season, campers can use our dinghy boats for free! A sailing instructor oversees the safe use of the boats. Join fellow students, meet new friends, and build sailing skills by having fun and spending time on the water.
Campers must have completed at least one full week of Level I, II, or III prior to using the boats.
