Sailing: Youth Camps

Summer is all about fun, new friends, and exciting adventures.

Community Sailing Center summer camps are designed to teach kids ages 6 through 17 the safety, skill, and joy involved in the life-long sport of sailing. Organized by age group and led by certified instructors, camp options include sailing-only and multi-activity camps that blend sailing and another sport or hobby. Week-long and two-week camps take place throughout the summer with several sessions to choose from.

2026 Youth Camp Lottery Registration Has Started

The Sailing Center is once again using a Lottery Registration system for youth camps. Registration is open January 8-12.

Important Dates

  • Thursday, January 8: Registration opens for the Lottery

  • Monday, January 12: Last day to register for the Lottery

  • January 13-24: Administration time.  Automated “waitlist” emails will be sent out indicating your entry in the lottery process.
  • Friday, January 23: Selection announcement begins

  • Tuesday, February 3: General Registration opens for all families. Another opportunity to sign up for open camp spots.

Learn to sail with new friends! Camps are grouped by age and skill level, and include half- and full-day options.

Spend a half-day learning to sail, then explore another activity like yoga, swimming, art or paddleboarding.

Early drop off and late pickup from camp are available for busy families. Saturday Open Sail is open to experienced campers.

2026 Sailing Camps

Guppies

Full-day or half-day camps for the youngest of sailors, filled with sailing basics and age-appropriate outdoor ecology. Campers will engage in dynamic on-land activities and enjoy sailing aboard our keelboats. Ages 6-7.

Little Guppies (Ages 6-7)

This full-day or half-day camp is designed especially for our youngest sailors, blending beginner sailing skills with age-appropriate outdoor ecology. Campers will enjoy hands-on activities on land and experience the excitement of sailing aboard our keelboats, making it a fun and engaging week on and off the water.   Ages 6-7

Artful Guppies (Ages 6-7)

In Artful Guppies, campers will learn to sail while creating artwork inspired by the lakeshore and the many creatures that live in and around the water. Guided by experienced art teachers, campers will explore different painting styles, including acrylics and watercolors, and experiment with additional mediums through mixed media projects that encourage creativity and self-expression. Upon arrival each day, campers will hop aboard our keelboats and set sail with Community Sailing Center instructors, blending art and adventure on the lake. Our Gumby Guppies will enjoy a fun-filled day combining yoga and sailing! In partnership with GROW Prenatal and Family Yoga Center, campers will start the day on the water, learning the fundamentals of sailing aboard our 23-foot keelboats. Afternoons are spent exploring the basics of yoga, both on land and while balancing on paddleboards, for a playful and active camp experience. Level II

These two-week long camps are a perfect follow up to Level I camp or an ideal choice for young sailors who are already comfortable with the basics. Camps for ages 9-16. Prerequisites: Basic swimming proficiency and successful completion of Level I (or equivalent).

Level II (Ages 9-11)

Level III

Building upon the skills learned in Level I and II, this camp will refine on-the-water skills, boat-handling skills, and introduce advanced equipment. This program is designed for campers looking to advance their sailing skills and be introduced to racing skills and tactics. Ages 12-16. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Level I and II and competent with a variety of saiing skills.

Level III (Ages 12-16)

During these two weeks, sailors will be building on the foundations from Level I and II. This camp sharpens sailors’ on-the-water techniques, enhances boat-handling skills, and introduces more advanced equipment. Designed for campers ready to take the next step, this program offers a deeper dive into sailing proficiency while introducing the fundamentals of racing skills and tactics. Ages 12-16

Intermediate & Advanced

With a solid foundation of previous sailing camp experiences, these camps allow sailors to embrace new challenges. From learning to sail larger keelboats, to advanced skills and sail theory, or learning to sail solo in a single-handed dinghy - these camps give young sailors the chance to rise to the next level. Advanced 420 (Ages 12-16)

The Advanced 420 Program is a week-long experience designed for graduates of Level III who are ready to elevate their sailing skills. Building on the advanced techniques and sail theory covered in Level III, this program provides focused coaching on 420s. Sailors will work on mastering the trapeze and symmetrical spinnakers, gaining confidence and precision with these more technical elements of the sport. Ages 12-16

Spend a week learning to sail on your own! This program is designed for sailors who have completed Levels I–III and are ready for the challenge of a single-handed dinghy. YoGirls

Through yoga and sailing, our campers will connect to both the land and the lake environments as they practice balance, gain strength and become more flexible in the outdoors. Ages 8-10.

In partnership with GROW Prenatal and Family Yoga Center, the CSC is thrilled to offer a camp for girls that blends our love of yoga with the joy of sailing. Through both practices, campers will build strength, improve balance, and connect deeply with the land and lake environments around them. Each day begins with yoga on land and on paddleboards, followed by afternoons spent learning the fundamentals of sailing. Sail & Paint

Campers will start their day creating beautiful artwork, including painting on canvas, watercolor landscapes, and mixed-media projects, as well as other fun activities. In the afternoons, they will take to the lake learning to sail on dinghies with CSC Instructors. Ages 8-10.

Swim & Sail

In a new partnership with the Burlington Tennis Club, campers will learn to swim in the pool and sail on Lake Champlain! Ages 8-10.

In partnership with the Burlington Tennis Club, campers will learn to swim in the pool and sail on Lake Champlain. Mornings are spent on the lake exploring the fundamentals of sailing on our Hartley dinghies. After lunch, campers are transported to the Burlington Tennis Club, where they will strengthen their swimming skills with guidance from trained instructors and enjoy a variety of fun and engaging camp activities. Raquets & Rudders

In a new partnership with the Burlington Tennis Club, this camp teaches the basics of two fun sports. Mornings will be spent at BTC, where participants will develop essential tennis skills. After lunch, campers will be transported to the CSC, where they will learn the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on Lake Champlain! Ages 10-13.

Racquets & Rudders (Ages 11-15)

In partnership with the Burlington Tennis Club, this camp introduces participants to the basics of two exciting sports. Mornings are spent at BTC, where campers develop essential tennis skills including stroke production, body mechanics, and match play. They’ll also enjoy a variety of fun activities such as field games, arts & crafts and more, for a well-rounded experience. After lunch, campers are transported to the CSC to learn the fundamental skills of sailing small boats on Lake Champlain, rounding out an active and adventurous day. Pirates of the Champlain

This camp will teach ye all there is to know to be a fearsome pirate! Learn swordplay and hand-to-hand combat; walk and talk like a pirate; don your scurviest pirate slops and sing a shanty or two on the shores of Lake Champlain. Mayhaps even a treasure hunt. Ages 8-10.

Pirates of the Champlain (Ages 8-10)

Prepare to board, ye landlubbers! This camp will turn ye into a true pirate of the high seas. Learn the art of swordplay and hand-to-hand combat, practice your best pirate walk and talk, don your scurviest slops, and belt out a hearty shanty or two along the shores of Lake Champlain, perhaps even embarking on a daring treasure hunt. Each afternoon, pirates-in-training will learn the basics of sailing, master essential knots, and practice boarding a vessel ready for plunder, all leading up to an epic Pirate Brawl Battle on the High Seas! Ages 8-10

Women in Science & Sailing

Take science to the lake with girls-only STEM and Sailing! Spend mornings learning the basics of sailing followed by afternoons with scientists and educators from Lake Champlain Sea Grant – UVM Extension in the lab or aboard a research vessel gathering data and learning about the many variables that contribute to the health of the lake and our watershed. Ages 11-15.

Women in Science and Sailing (Ages 11-15)

Take science to the lake with this Community Sailing Center and Lake Champlain Sea Grant UVM Extension partner camp for girls. Each morning begins at the Sailing Center with the basics of sailing, followed by afternoons in the lab or aboard a research vessel with scientists and educators from Lake Champlain Sea Grant UVM Extension. Campers will gather data and explore the physical, biological, chemical, and cultural factors that shape the health of the lake and our watershed. This camp is inclusive of all women, trans women, and femme identifying non binary youth.  Community Partner: Lake Champlain Sea Grant – UVM Extension Ages 11-15

Early Drop Off

Come to camp early and we will start all the fun before camp begins. Can be added to qualifying camps when you register. Ages 8 and up.

Saturday Open Sail

Each Saturday of the summer season, campers can use our dinghy boats for free! A sailing instructor oversees the safe use of the boats. Join fellow students, meet new friends, and build sailing skills by having fun and spending time on the water.

Campers must have completed at least one full week of Level I, II, or III prior to using the boats.
