One of our core values as an organization is to encourage the responsible stewardship of Lake Champlain. Through our educational programs and initiatives, we engage our local community and utilize on-water recreation to inspire people to “Love Your Lake”. You can be a part of our effort to take care of Lake Champlain.
Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are a threat to the health of Lake Champlain, our most treasured natural resource. Lake Champlain currently has 51 known non-native and invasive species, with more species threatening our watershed from other nearby waterways. These invasive species are problematic for the lake’s ecosystem because they disrupt the native food web and habitats, impair water quality and native species health, and cause property damage.
Help us stop the spread of invasive species and protect our beautiful lake! Most of the time, invasive species spread through the actions of humans. AIS can spread on the hulls of boats, on fishing equipment, in bilge or ballast water, or through intentional displacement of non-native species.
What can I do to help? Clean watercraft and gear before entering & after leaving a body of water. Drain bilge, ballast, wells, and buckets before you leave an area. Dry equipment before launching into a new body of water.
Thank you for helping the CSC care for the lake we love so it can be enjoyed by our community for generations to come.
